Beginning Felting with Heidi Harris
March 12, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$95
This 1-day workshop takes place at West County Fiber Arts in Sebastopol, CA.
We will cover the basics of cleaning and carding wool, and then move on to felting techniques. Wool will be provided for students to card for their class project, and then use wet felting techniques to make a scarf or table runner that they can take home, along with a handout on wool cleaning and carding instructions.
Complimentary wine, tea and snacks will be served from 4 to 5 pm, for those who wish to stay and discuss techniques and results, or just socialize with fellow students.
The instructor: Heidi is a felt artist, and the founder of West County Fiber Arts. Shortly after attending her first Fibershed Wool & Fine Fiber Symposium in 2012, she discovered her passion for felting. Heidi spearheaded the Fibershed Yurt project, which culminated in displaying locally grown and made fiber art, clothing and products in a signature yurt entirely hand felted of local wool by Fibershed students and volunteers.
The yurt project has lead Heidi deep into the felting culture. She has devoured dozens of books on the subject and transformed her garage into a veritable felting factory. Heidi has taught needle and wet felting classes, as well as peg loom weaving.
The location: West County Fiber Arts is located on a beautiful 1-acre property in Sebastopol, California—Heidi’s home and studio. Classes will take place both indoors and in the garden.
Tuition: $95 (includes all materials needed for the class)
