Blending Fiber on the Drum Carder

August 11, 2013 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

product_image_tn_332Create exciting color and fiber blends using the drum carder. Learn how to create your own multi-colored batts and roving. Drum carding is also a great way to incorporate all the left-over fibers in your stash into one spectacular yarn.

Some fiber is included in the cost of the class. You can also bring some of your own fiber to share in a class project. Make sure that your fiber is well washed.

Bring your spinning wheel and a drum carder if you have one. Participants will share the use of my drum carders.

Coming into balance with natural systems- how to provide food, fiber, fuel and flora without extracting more than what must be returned? Agriculture that mimics natural systems- silvopastures, food forests, and the polyculture model are being deployed profitably in farms across the globe. If you are interested in these systems, this is a great entry level article, we also recommend the author-- Eric Toensmeier's new book on Carbon Farming.

'From the Land Comes the Cloth' describes the rich history and a series of stunning photos of Harris Tweed by Ian Lawson in Selvedge Magazine: "As I began to photograph the landscape, the people, and the tweed, I started to see patterns emerge. A beat began and the rhythm of Harris Tweed flowed into my consciousness and into my pictures..."
What patterns emerge as the land becomes cloth in your fibershed?
