Peg Loom Weaving with Heidi Harris
March 26, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$110
This 1-day workshop takes place at West County Fiber Arts in Sebastopol, CA.
Peg looms are simple wooden weaving frames that can produce lovely scarves, rugs, bags, table runners and other projects. Students will learn how to warp a peg loom, begin weaving a project, and learn how to remove the finished project from the loom.
Each student will receive a peg loom by “Papa’s One-of-a-Kind Peg Looms.” These looms are made from 100-year-old fence posts from Sebastopol, CA. Each piece has been cut, sanded, stained, oiled, waxed and rubbed with love by Papa, who is from Sonoma County and is 85 years young. There will be an instruction sheet to take home with your loom.
Complimentary wine, tea and snacks will be served from 4 to 5 pm, for those who wish to stay and discuss techniques and results, or just socialize with fellow students.
The instructor: Heidi is a felt artist, and the founder of West County Fiber Arts. Shortly after attending her first Fibershed Wool & Fine Fiber Symposium in 2012, she discovered her passion for felting. Heidi spearheaded the Fibershed Yurt project, which culminated in displaying locally grown and made fiber art, clothing and products in a signature yurt entirely hand felted of local wool by Fibershed students and volunteers.
The yurt project lead Heidi deep into the felting culture. She has devoured dozens of books on the subject and transformed her garage into a veritable felting factory. Heidi has taught needle and wet felting classes, as well as peg loom weaving.
The location: West County Fiber Arts is located on a beautiful 1-acre property in Sebastopol, California—Heidi’s home and studio. Classes will take place both indoors and in the garden.
Tuition: $110 (includes hand-crafted peg loom to take home). Bring yarn in the colors of your choice, and we will have some free yarns that you can choose from as well.
