Spacing and cramming is the term used for a technique that uses a combination of very dense and very open spacing in the same warp. This creates a fabric with dense vertical stripes surrounded by loose open areas of weaving. It produces a wonderful fabric for window coverings, light-weight lace-like scarves, or garment fabric.   Healdsburg Center for the Arts presents a nationwide fiber exhibition.  Intertwined   honors all forms of fiber art expressions, from the humble woven basket to the abstract sculpture and from the traditional tapestry to the conceptual works with a social statement.  65 pieces are featured using a variety of materials- paper, wool, cotton, metal, wood, and plastic and many modes and techniques- weaving, papermaking, felting, dyeing, surface design, sewing, quilting and more.

This 3-session class is suitable for both rigid heddle and shaft loom weavers. Weavers will explore the supplementary weft techniques of brocade and inlay. Both techniques are often seen in ethnic textiles and are a relatively simple way to add interest and complexity to your plain weave fabrics.
