Mimi Luebbermann owns Windrush Farm in Chileno Valley, West Marin, a MALT registered farm where she raises multi purpose sheep. She has several flocks of Shetlands, Corriedale/Finn mixes and other breeds such as the California Variegated Mutent. Shetlands are small sheep, highly prized for their softness.
In 2011, Mimi and local fiber artist Marlie de Swart started a yarn company called Local Pastures. The fiber is collected from small farmers and shepherds within a 150 mile radius of West Marin, and the yarn is milled within that distance as well. Most yarns are blends of wool and alpaca to create a natural softness while retaining the resilience of wool, except for the 100% Shetland wools. All yarns are natural colors, no dyes.
