I like to make things! and now I have the opportunity to make things that also make sense! As a young woman living in southern Oregon I had one ewe that was given to me. I learned to care for her and using her fleece I learned to spin and dye the wool with local plants. Then I learned to weave the yarn on a Navajo loom. This was 30 years ago in the 70s and I feel as if I have gone full circle with this opportunity to work again with local wool and dyes. The bangles found here at the Fibershed Marketplace are knitted and felled by me using Rebbecca Burgess’ locally grown, spun and dyed wool.
My husband and I have lived in southern Marin for the last 34 years and raised two great people, Caitlin and Conor. We live in West Blithedale Canyon right now and I find the Redwoods and Mt. Tamalpais very comforting and inspiring in my life. I am always creating — sewing, knitting, crocheting, beading and working with silver, re-fashioning found objects. I always managed to carve out time to make things, even while holding down jobs and raising kids. I started selling what I make right from the beginning (remember LOVE beads?) because I needed the money to get more stuff to make more things. Turns out I enjoy selling FACE to FACE almost as much as I enjoy making things.
At any given time, you can find me knitting downtown Mill Valley: the depot, Peet’s, the bench in front of Roots Collaborative (which carries a selection of my creations).
