January 25-27: A three-part modular workshop – take one or all three

Day One: Field Study

JANUARY 25TH 10 AM – 2 PM $55

INCLUDES FIELD KIT AND 3 PAGE COLOR GUIDE TO BEST DYE SPECIES

Take a slow walk through nearby coastal habitat to observe lichens and fungi in their natural habitats; getting a  deeper, hands-on understanding of the role lichens and fungi play in ecology.  We’ll discuss the difference between collecting specimens for identification, and for dyeing and dye testing.  The practical aspects of this module will be learning to observe and discuss fungal features, performing chemical spot tests on lichens, and taking field notes of our finds. This will prepare you to forage for dye species on your own.  Picnic time is included and everyone is encouraged to bring food and snacks to share.
